It is only now after an early, nay, normal finishing time to my working day that I can once again find the free hours it takes for me to hand carve yet another missive to you my anxiously awaiting readership.
And what pray-tell I hear you ask could have changed so dramatically in the scheme of constant overwork that is my salaried life to allow such an unprecedented finishing time to the day of one Freeloading Phill?
Well 'twas none other than a day of training for yet another in the seemingly unending string of upgrades to stuff. My partner in training crime this time was none other than Supervisor S resuming her duties as my sidekick. For this educational outing we were under the esteemed tutelage of The Puppies and unhindered by any library staff with their insistence that the system they use every day should make sense to them.
The morning's downpour could not dissuade me from my attendance as I trudged knee-deep through the swirling maelstroms of overflowing city gutters to reach my destination.
My reward was an informative session with a minimal morning tea and a choose your own lunch. Luckily our early finish did still make it to the point where venue staff laid out the meagre afternoon tea which one was able to raid on the way out into city shopping and thence home early enough to have the time to compose some bloggage.
Hmmm, I seem to have not even broached the subject of my post yet so I had better get on with it henceforth.
I spent my evening last Saturday at a dinner in celebration of The Bastard's imminent ageing event. I was privileged to be there amongst his inner cabal as they whiled away the evening with intricate world-domination planning cunningly conducted in the form of frivolous conversation. Fantomas was there of course, and I was able to catch up with Unity and Krazy K for the first time in ages.
The venue chosen for this event was an Hellenic restaurant and as the platters of meat were placed before us we all had to face the very real threat of dealing with a serious case of meat poisoning. My particular indulgence was to be shared with The Bastard himself and Fantomas. Of course the lithe Fanty did not pull his weight and I was forced to consume the remainder of his share so that our Hellenic hosts would not scorn us for leaving much of our repast on the platter.
As there were several there in the family way the event finished at a reasonable hour and I was able to waddle home contented to spend the remainder of my weekend sleeping off my bloat and preparing for the hard week of work ahead of me.

The Missing Weeks. Part the First
Well I've been out of communication for weeks now.
I could claim that it's some sort of arty project to have this December be a reverse of the previous one and it's 25 blogs of Xmas.
But methinks that's all a tad too much to believe - even of The Tales.
Instead you shall just have to believe that I have been exceedingly busy with stuff. The following list should convince you of my extreme busyness quotient until such time as I have you all caught up on the myriads of interesting events that befell your correspondent in that intriguingly un-blogged time.
SPUN XMAS Meeting
We begin with the annual SPUN Xmas meeting which, true to tradition, I attended without the assistance of the esteemed Mr Prada who once again perplexingly had better things to do than attend a free feed.
I was suffering some trepidation going into this meeting as I feared I may be elected into some official capacity for the coming year. There was also the fear about returning to the ground upon which I had received my recent dose of Wine Poisoning.
I was lucky enough to escape this time with only a mild case - despite the best efforts of Dubrovnik Hater and The Puppies.
The Viking-Hatted Bucks Night
After a brief return home for rest I was off again that night for the next stop in my social itinerary. This was the much anticipated bucks night for The Viking Hat GM. The anticipation came from the fact that The Mad Magyar was responsible for the organisation and I was expecting to get a giant insight into the Eastern European buck's night traditions - I imagined something along the lines of the groom having to win several knife-fights or possibly wrestle a wild animal into submission whilst under the influence of several litres of petrol-grade alcohol.
Apparently though, the way they do it in the old country involves go-carting, rounds of drinks, walking aimlessly through the city not wanting to pay $10 cover charges, and eventually going home when the buck refuses to enter any further establishments.
Hmm, it's a small world after all.
In the end I made it home thanks to the grace of Exploding Ninja Pony who detoured to drop me on my doorstep despite his obvious gut-clenching fear that The Viking Hat GM was only a hair's breadth away from engaging in that wonderful Australian custom of the auto-interior technicolour yawn.
Up next: what happens when you gather 40 librarians in a room with food and drink?

... Flibberty's Farewell
After a leisurely afternoon meeting with The Professor and Madame President to discuss SPUN Executive things I toodled off to The Flibberty Gibbet's farewell drinks as she is leaving the LMS supplier for more academic pastures.
The chosen venue was The Mint. It was a great night for some outdoor drinks and the beergarden BBQ proved just what I needed to lay the foundations for what was to come.
Several large beers later I'd had some good conversations with some of the girls who deal with my pleas for help when the system breaks.
I was also been able to dig for dirt on Mr Prada from The Puppies who knows him quite well so I should be able to maintain my command of him for quite some time now.
Somehow TFG, a generous barrister, a help desker and I walked into a bar... no wait that's not right, we staggered our way to a new venue which turned out to be the Carriage place, from the staff Christmas party, in which it appears I am fated to spend all my late drunken evenings.
I had to leave once the progressive 80's rock instrumental band started as it was just all too much to bear.
Hell Island by Matthew Reilly
There really is nothing like a little train time to help you knock off a few quick books. This is the first Reilly book (action movie script) I've read for a while and the break as done wonders for my appreciation of his writing style. I quite enjoyed the setting and the story. It's shortness made it a great two-day read. If you like his stuff then this is one of the better Scarecrow stories.
